O U S A London Branch Meetings

What's Happening?

The online element of the joint branch meetings is being held now and will continue until 3rd February in the FirstClass forums and at Camden Regional Centre, 1-11 Hawley Crescent, Camden Town, NW1 8NP on Sunday 31st January at 11am.

High on the agenda will be the 'Futures Project' which will shape the next generation O U S A. More information about these exciting developments can be found by clicking this link to the O U S A website.

All students are welcome to the branch meetings. We would like to hear your views on what you want our student association to do about the funding cuts, University proposals, and the 'Futures Project' for reorganising the way O U S A runs. The main agenda item will be Conference. If you prefer to attend the meeting online, please follow the link on your student homepage to the regional forum and you will find the London discussion forums on FirstClass. Email us if you need further help.

We will also be issuing O U S A Student Cards so if you want one bring along proof of study and a photo (or for a small payment to the O U S A charity, OUSET, we will take the photo for you).

We usually repair to a local venue after the meetings for a chat.

What's Happening?

In the buildup to Conference (16-18 April at Nottingham's Jubilee Campus) we will be concentrating on formulating motions and seeking delegates to attend Conference, which gives a fascinating insight into how your Students' Assocation works. Transport, meals and accommodation are provided and if you would like to attend please come to the meeting on the 31st January or contact your branch on FirstClass.

Planned Pub Meetings

The following lunch-time meetings have been planned.  On each day, the meeting time is 12 noon and we can have a pub lunch if desired. They are both in the Wetherspoons chain and thus relatively inexpensive but are nevertheless quite welcoming.  Further details will be posted nearer to the time.

Saturday, 13 February

Penderel’s Oak, 283-288, High Holborn, London WC1.  The pub is approximately mid-way between Holborn and chancery Lane underground stations.

Saturday, 20 March

The upstairs bar of “The Railway”, 202, Upper Richmond Road, Putney, London SW15.  The pub is directly opposite Putney rail station with regular trains from Waterloo, Clapham Junction and Richmond.  From East Putney District Line Underground station, turn left as you come out of the station and when you come to the main cross-roads the pub is on the corner diagonally opposite (about 5-6 minutes walk).

Facebook

In future our events will also appear in the diary section of the Open University Network of Facebook. You can also say there whether you will be coming and leave comments both before and after the event. Our own group has also just been opened on Facebook for O U S A London. Why not join in the fun and see us there?

A note on accessibility

We have tried to make this site as accessible as possible, especially for those using electronic readers which is why acronyms (such as that for Open University Students' Association) has spaces in between the letters. The downside of this is that sometimes they can run over two lines! We have also kept the site deliberately simple, without bells and whistles, so that as each web-master moves on to pastures new, their successor need not be a skilled web designer.

Membership of O U S A

Every Open University student automatically becomes a member of O U S A (pronounced Ooo-sah). Membership is free and by becoming involved in your student association you will develop personal skills that perhaps you didn’t even know you had! We can help you, train you, and together we can help our fellow students.

The main objectives of O U S A are to represent, to support, and to socialise!

What is the London Regional Forum?

The London Regional Forum [R F] is just one of the 16 that make up the Students' Association. It comprises student volunteers who are elected from the two London branches, and other members such as the member (E C M) representing us on the O U S A national Executive Committee.

The Forum meets three or four times a year and organises, for example, Openday events at the London Regional Centre, events at OU Residential Schools held in the summer at Queen Mary's University in Mile End and O U S A's Gift Shop at Degree Ceremonies as well as electing representatives to other O U and O U S A bodies.

London has around 24,000 of the O U's current 180,000 students.
